Common extras
General guidanceNone of these are unusual, but they surprise visitors when nobody mentions them.
- Entry tickets and separate camera or video fees at national parks, museums and monuments.
- Car hire: tolls, parking, interstate permits, and the driver's daily allowance and accommodation on multi-day trips.
- Houseboats: whether meals, drinking water and air-conditioning are included (air-conditioning often runs only at night).
- Jeep safaris and park transport in the hills, often charged per vehicle.
- Taxes on hotel bills, and whether quoted prices include them.
How to avoid surprises
General guidanceAsk for the price in writing, with what's included and excluded, before you agree. Every Southside quote lists inclusions, exclusions and cancellation terms, and anything a host hasn't confirmed is marked as not yet confirmed.
