Kumarakom is a cluster of islands and villages on the eastern shore of Vembanad Lake. Mangroves, coconut groves and paddy fields line the canals, and the bird sanctuary draws migratory species in the cooler months. It is quieter than Alappuzha and well suited to unhurried days on and around the water.
