Munnar sits high in the Western Ghats where three mountain streams meet. The landscape is defined by tea estates that have been cultivated since the late nineteenth century, with clipped green slopes running up to forest and grassland. It is a place for slow drives, early walks before the mist lifts, and learning how a leaf becomes the tea in your cup.
Best known for
- Eravikulam National Park, home to the Nilgiri tahr
- Tea estates and the Tata Tea Museum
- Mattupetty Dam and the surrounding lakes
- Views towards Anamudi, the highest peak in South India
Beyond the usual
- Walk estate roads at sunrise, before the tour traffic begins
- Spend time in the smaller tea villages beyond the town centre
